The music provided this evening will be perfect for those of you who wish to get your ‘swing’ on! Any style of dance goes, though . . . just get out there and have a great time! Swing dance refers to a lively group of dances that were developed and became popular in the 1920’s-1950’s with the swing style of jazz music that was so prominent in those eras. Some of the more commonly known swing dances are the Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, East Coast and West Coast Swing, Shag and the Balboa. Swing dance enjoyed a widespread reemergence in the 1990’s which was a unique phenomenon in that it transcended barriers which commonly separate us: age, gender, religion, ideology, and nationality. From Dublin to Dallas, people of all backgrounds have put their differences aside and united on the dance floor to engage in this fun-spirited style of dance. Swing dancing is universal . . . it’s for everyone!

The live music provided by Texarkana Jazz Orchestra will be brassy, energetic, big band jazz. The band is composed of talented musicians from across the Four States area and has played together for over 15 years. Aside from the obvious talent of individual band members, the band feels that one of its biggest strengths is that they have a great time playing together . . . and that positive energy transfers to the audience.

Attendees will be wowed by Stacy James Mayo, Hostess of the Swingin’ In Spring! event, who will accompany TJO with vocal performances throughout the evening. Stacy is a Texarkana native and is well known here in our community. We have watched her career evolve, beginning in 2001 when she won the title of Miss Texas and finished as a semi-finalist at the Miss America competition. In addition to singing at such events as the Cotton Bowl, Texas Rangers Game, Houston Astros Game and several NASCAR events, Stacy has toured with the Gaithers, as well as released several CD’s. Her talent is acting, singing, and producing delight in many stage works.
